Rio Piedra Plantation Quail Hunting
Contact: Bill Atchison
The only multiple year winner “Orvis Wingshooting Lodge of the year” 2001, 2002, and 2010
Here at Rio Piedra Plantation we do one thing, and we do it well. We offer Traditional Bobwhite Quail Hunting. In the geographic heart of Georgia’s Classic Southern Quail Habitat. No one does it quite the same. And most certainly, no one does it better. The total quail hunting experiequail-hunting3nce here is unlike any other quail hunting you might have ever known and harkens back to a more genteel era. This is wingshooting as it once was, when sportsmen by day matched wits with wild birds in their native environs…and by night enjoyed fine dining, gracious service and luxurious surroundings. Plantation-style, challenging quail hunting remains alive at Rio Piedra.
Hunts are customized to the individual hunting party. With over thirty hunting areas, extended visits
provide the opportunity to experience a variety of terrains from pristine Longleaf pine forests to gently rolling wiregrass meadows along both sides of the picturesque Flint River. Specially equipped jeeps transport hunters, guides, and dogs to fresh hunting areas every morning and afternoon.

As good as It Gets!!!,

“This is the 10th year in a row that my wife and I have been to Rio. We have been to other Georgia plantations to shoot birds as well. No other place measures up to Rio Piedra. The design of the Lodge is such that it affords areas for small or large private groups to gather to visit or to dine as well as areas that are inviting to share with other guests to meet and make new fiends. The rooms are nice and the beds are great. The meals that Chefs Dirk and Denise prepare are consistently wonderful. The staff are warm and friendly and make you feel like you are at home. The guides and their dogs are consistently super. The large size and diversity of the hunting areas and management of the plantation grounds are first class. I have shot at many fine places in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, South America, Africa, Scotland, and the United Kingdom. I rate Rio with the best of them. Thanks go out to Rio owners, Annie and Bill Atchison, and Hunt Master Lynn Gray who have continued to add various new embellishments to the Rio experience each year. We hope to be going to Rio for many more years to come.
Finest Quail Hunt in 50 years,

“This plantation, owners, and staff in my opinion, provide the finest quail hunting that I have experienced in over 40 years of wild quail hunting. Their attention to safety, personal attention, and detail made our hunt more than memorable. The terrain is perfect quail habitat, the guides and dogs excellent, and the food was outstanding.”
My fourth time…,

“There is absolutely NOTHING anyone could do to try to improve Rio Piedra!
The whole staff is top notch. After my Dad’s 15th visit and the rest of our family’s 4th visit, everyone at Rio has become like family. The accommodations are as if you’re staying in Ralph Lauren’s personal home while being ‘Disneyland clean’. The cuisine is not just to satisfy your hunger after a long hunting session, it’s an exceptionally fabulous dining experience. The Guides and their incredibly talented, friendly and well trained dogs not only make the hunt exciting, they make it FUN! Oh, I could go on and on, but my point is that this annual trip is one I look forward to all year long.”
